Blog #7

First I was a little creeped out by the idea of essentially creating a seamless connection between the digital and physical world, but in the end I was just awed and impressed at the Sixth Sense technology. I'm still so amazed that humans have the potential to create such mind-boggling technologies. What was most interesting was that as the two videos explained the Sixth Sense technology is neither very complicated to manufacture nor very expensive to produce. At first I was skeptical about the quote "help us to stay human" because I couldn't comprehend that that would be the result of some new technology, but when he said that it will "help us avoid being machines sitting in front of other machines" I finally understood. The whole idea is to minimize and rid ourselves of the "middle man," something that is very important in technology development because I believe it will orient the human race away from the screen and lessen reliance on stationary technology. I loved when Pranav Mistry talked about his realization that he should paint the physical world with the digital world instead of the reverse. That really clicked for me because it lessened the fear that comes from all the movies where the robots learn too much and take over because instead of giving the technology power we are putting that power literally into our own hands, something that I can see leading into the next steps of evolution. Technology can exist anywhere it is just our job to package it in the right container, ourselves. I think that a seamless relationship between humans and technology will result in a return to the world around us, we won't be bogged down or limited by objects at all and even though things will never be as they were centuries ago without all this information and technology I think we will be able to redefine what it is to be human and move on to the next steps of evolution.

I found this cool video from Corning, a glass and ceramics company that does a lot in technological development. It is in line with the same idea of the Sixth Sense technology and could definitely be used with it. The video is called "A Day Made of Glass."
